A Gordon County Grand Jury has indicted Lowell Thomas Yancey, also known as “Wicked,” on multiple charges, including malice murder, in connection with a 2024 shooting at a Calhoun apartment complex.

The indictment stems from an Aug. 4, 2024 incident at Carriage Apartments, located at 980 Red Bud Road across from AdventHealth Gordon. Emergency crews from the Calhoun Police Department, Calhoun Fire Department and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a person being shot.

According to the original incident summary, officers arrived to find the body of a white male, later identified as James Albert Kinsey, lying between two vehicles in the parking lot near Building C. First responders secured the scene as EMS personnel arrived.

Witnesses at the scene identified Yancey as the suspect. Authorities reported that Kinsey approached Yancey and the two men began arguing. During the confrontation, Yancey allegedly pulled a black pistol from his pocket and shot Kinsey twice before fleeing west on Red Bud Road. He was later apprehended and taken into custody. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted with the case.

Court records show the Grand Jury returned a 14-count indictment against Yancey. The charges include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, illegal use of a communication facility, possession of a handgun by a person under 18, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and tampering with evidence.

No trial date has been announced.
