Gordon County Schools Back in Session – Officials Remind Drivers of School Bus Safety Rules
GORDON COUNTY, GA — Students are back in class across Gordon County, and local officials are reminding the community to slow down and stay alert as school buses return to the roads.
Drivers are required by Georgia law to stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended. This rule applies to traffic in both directions on two-lane roads and on multi-lane roads when there is no physical median.
Motorists should also use extra caution in school zones, obey posted speed limits, and watch for children crossing streets or waiting at bus stops. Failing to stop for a school bus can result in fines and points on a driver’s license.
With buses making frequent stops and many students adjusting to their routes, slowing down and paying attention helps ensure a safe start to the school year.
