September 29, 1942 — November 22, 2025
Barbara Ann Harris, 82, of Resaca, Georgia, peacefully entered her eternal rest on Saturday, November 22, 2025. She was born on September 29, 1942. Though her biological mother, Peggy Grimes, passed away very early in Barbara’s life, she was lovingly raised by Betty Jean Moss, whom she always considered her mother, and by her devoted father, Hubert Moss. Together, they nurtured her, guided her, and shaped the woman of grace and kindness she became.
Barbara’s life was filled with deep joy, but she also endured profound loss. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Kenneth Marshall Harris (2016); her precious middle son, Joseph Gregory Harris (2019); and her brothers Larry Hubert Moss and Philip Moss. Knowing she is reunited with them in Heaven brings comfort to those who love her.
Affectionately known as “Miss Barbara,” she touched generations of children and families throughout Whitfield County. She devoted her career to the Whitfield County School System, spending most of her years at Valley Point Elementary School, where her humorous spirit, steady patience, and warm smile made her a favorite among students and coworkers alike. Teaching was not simply her profession—it was her calling and her ministry. She poured her heart into every child who crossed her path.
At home, Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and her very special great-grandchildren. A woman whose faith was as lively as her spirit, she was always on the move—traveling, visiting, and staying closely involved with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each one brought her immeasurable pride and filled her days with purpose and love.
Barbara is survived by her sons, James Ken Harris and Marshall Bryan Harris and his wife, Jennifer, who loved her dearly; her brothers Darius Moss (Donna) and Danny Moss (Charlene); and her sisters Norma Moss Dickens, Marilyn Moss McDaniel (David), and Lisa Moss Adams (Mike). She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Megan Harris Williams, Mariah Harris, and Brynn Harris; and her great-grandchildren, Haiden Williams and Sophie Williams, who brought her endless joy.
She also leaves behind her special niece, Amy Bailey (Steve), who spent countless hours sitting with her over the past year, singing“Jesus Loves Me” to Barbara’s pure delight. Many more nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends also survive—each forever touched by her kindness and the gentle way she loved.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
A funeral service to honor Barbara’s life will follow at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens in Dalton, Georgia.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Barbara Ann Harris—a devoted mother, loving sister, faithful teacher, and precious friend. Her legacy of compassion, laughter, and gentleness will continue to live on in every life she touched.
