Mr. Benjamin Smith Schoolcraft, 86, of Resaca, Georgia, died Thursday March 5, 2026, after several years of declining health.
He was born in Amma, West Virginia on July 15, 1939, the son of the late Leo Smith Schoolcraft and Lilia Garnett Brown Schoolcraft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian D. Schoolcraft. He graduated from Springfield High School in Akron, Ohio, in 1957. He was retired from the US Postal Service as Postmaster and was a member of Talking Rock Creek Chapel.
He was affectionately known by family and friends as "Ben" or "Benny". He adored his family. They said, "He was sweet, smart, and funny in a totally quiet but impactful way. His spirit will stay with us forever. He had the utmost respect from his family. And no one can make biscuits and gravy like he did!"
Survivors include his precious and faithful wife, Marion Tomlin Schoolcraft, to whom he was married for 28 wonderful years; daughter, Rana Schoolcraft Hayes; granddaughter, Sarah L. Hayes; sister, Charlotte "Sookie" Unrue; brother, William "Bill" Schoolcraft; the mother of his children, Margaret Edith Schoolcraft; daughter (Marion), Elaine Rudder; and son-in-law, Johnny Rudder, along with other relatives.
It was Mr. Schoolcraft's wishes to be cremated with a private family gathering to follow at one of Ben's favorite fishing spots.
