    For the first Cold Weather Advisory, from 4 AM to 10 AM EST this morning. For the second Cold Weather Advisory, from 8 PM this evening to 9 AM EST Tuesday.
    IMPACTS
    Wind chills from 5 to 15 above across much of north and portions of Middle Georgia are expected with wind chills as cold as 0 in the north Georgia mountains. Avoid prolonged exposure if possible and have a safe heating source, particularly for those who may be experiencing power outages.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Dorothy “Dot” Craig

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Walraven Craig, 92, of the Carter’s Lake Community, Ellijay, and for many years a resident of Gordon County, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Gordon Healthcare and Rehabilitation after several weeks of declining health. She was born in Gordon County in the Pine Chapel Community on December 4, 1933, the daughter of the late Thomas “Tom” Walraven and Lula Sisson Walraven.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Gordon Lee Craig, on March 6, 2018. Mrs. Craig was a graduate and salutatorian of the Red Bud High School Class of 1950. She received her bachelor’s degree from Berry College in 1954. She later received her master’s degree from Western Carolina University and her specialist degree from the University of West Georgia. She lived in the Fairmount Community for 36 years and taught school early in her career at Red Bud Elementary and for about three decades at Fairmount Schools, mostly in middle school, serving a total of 32 years. She was known as a highly dedicated and effective math teacher. Mrs. Craig was an excellent cook who loved to collect recipes and share her baked goods, cakes, pies, and vegetables with others. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who always sacrificed for those she loved. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Celeste McClellan; her son, Dwight Craig; her grandson, Craig McClellan, and his wife, Laura; and three great-grandchildren. In addition, she is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Craig will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Son’s Funeral Home, with Reverend Eddie Brannon and Reverend Stacy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery at Oakman. Pallbearers serving are Mark Herndon, Marvin Hendrix, Mark Owens, and Michael Gibson. The Craig Family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., immediately preceding the funeral.

The family would like to give special thanks and express their appreciation to the staff of Gordon Healthcare and Rehabilitation for their wonderful and loving care of Mrs. Craig. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Craig’s memory.
