Merriel C Landrum
April 25, 1938 - July 9, 2025

Mr. Merriel C Landrum, Jr., age 87, of 111 Wilson Street, Adairsville, passed away Wednesday July 9, 2025, at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, Rome. He was born in Calhoun, GA, April 25, 1938, child of the late M.C. and Rosa Lee Scott Landrum, Sr.

When Mr. Landrum moved with his parents to Adairsville in 1954, he helped his father build the house he would live in for the rest of his life. Behind the house, his father's woodworking shop shaped his legacy. A young Mr. Landrum would sneak out to the shop to listen to blues music at night, when radio waves had a clear shot from New Orleans. He later learned the woodworking craft from his father, creating beautiful cabinets, furniture, and gifts in the shop- even after losing his fingers on one hand. He quipped that he was still “one handy man.”

Mr. Landrum was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. A dedicated Mason of many years, he eventually achieved the title of Master of the Adairsville Masonic lodge, where his interest in philanthropy was born. He was skilled in metal working and held various jobs as a welder and fabricator, which helped him attain another thing he loved: speed. In his younger days he built and rebuilt cars, searching for something flashier or faster. He eventually found the Christian Motorcycle Association, where he combined two things close to his heart: riding his Honda Goldwing, and his faith. With the CMA, he took a life-changing trip to Uganda, where he employed all of his skills to helped build infrastructure for impoverished people and baptize new believers in the Nile River. He continued working in the mission field for many years. In the later years of his life, Mr. Landrum spent time in his Adairsville home surrounded by family while petting his dogs Lucy and Max, and his granddogs Max and Siena. When he ventured outside the house, he took road trips to north Georgia for BBQ and apple picking.

Mr. Landrum was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scott Landrum. Survivors include his wife, to whom he was married on June 29th, 1984, Ella Jane Landrum of Adairsville; a daughter, Debbie Holland of Calhoun; two sons, Miles and William Landrum, both Atlanta; three grandchildren, Taylor Holland, Montana Holland, and Peyton Landrum.

When greeting Mr. Landrum with a "good to see you," he would reply, "it's good to be seen."

Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with John Morgan speaking. The family will receive friends at Barton Funeral Home, on Thursday, from 1:00 PM until the services begins.
