Norma Highfield
November 24, 1941 — March 2, 2026

Norma Jean Brown Highfield passed away on March 2, 2026, at Morning Pointe in Calhoun, Georgia after several months of declining health.

Norma was born in Resaca, Georgia on November 24, 1941. She is the daughter of the late John Otis and Mary Lucy Hilley Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Boyd Robert Highfield, and her brother Joseph Dale Brown.

Norma was an Honor Graduate of Calhoun High School in 1960. Following high school she attended a one year business school and then later attended Georgia Banking School. She worked at Calhoun First National Bank for 24 years and then Starr Mathews Insurance Agency for 19 years.

Norma was very involved in many community activities. She played softball and bowled in leagues for several years. Norma and her husband loved to travel and went on many trips with the Red Carpet Cattlemen's Association, Buddy and Martha Davis Tours, and the North Georgia GADAbouts. She loved spending time at her home away from home on the Hiawassee River with good friends and family. She also enjoyed many good times playing Rook and traveling with close friends she made at Calhoun First National Bank. She was an active member of Resaca First Baptist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School and was a member of WMU. She and her husband moved their membership to Calhoun First Baptist to attend with their grandchildren when they moved back to Calhoun. She continued to be involved in WMU and attended many bible studies there. They were members of the Faithseekers Class at First Baptist until their health declined. She traveled to many Christian Ladies Retreats over the years with many dear friends. Norma was a devoted wife, dear mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved nothing more than time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.They were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her daughters Melissa Long (Paul) and Meredith Banta, grandchildren, Morgan Bradley (Chase), Mackenzie Banta, and Tyler Banta, great grandchildren Luke, Lawson, and Bo Bradley, Nieces and nephews Michelle Childress (Justin), and Anna Brown, Nancy Stanfield Dyer, Theresa Biles (Donnie), Annalisa Headrick (Tim), Danny Burgess, Edward Burgess, Patricia Ann Pressley, Walter Pressley and sister in law Sally Burgess. She also had several great nieces, nephews and cousins that she cherished.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Morning Pointe and Homespun Hospice. They would especially like to thank Ms. Teresa Burse, her devoted caregiver, who became a dear friend.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Calhoun First Baptist Church.

The funeral service will follow on Thursday at 4:00 PM from Calhoun First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tyler Banta, Chase Bradley, Justin Childress, Tim Edwards, Brad Brown, Eddie Hilley, Brian Ruddell, and Matthew Ruddell. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers need to assemble at the church at 3:30.
