Surrounded by family, Mr. Tate “Ford” Ruddell passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Atrium Health Floyd, after a brief battle with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Ford was born January 20, 1943, to the late Leslie and Mattie Ingram Ruddell. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Ruddell, and Broughton Ruddell; sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Kate Bagley, and Evelyn Ruddell.

He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Martha Croy Ruddell; two sons, Neal (Carrie) Ruddell and Kelly Ruddell; granddaughter, Star (Chandi) Ruddell Mutasa, and one great grandson, Judah Mutasa.

Ford was a faithful employee at Collins and Aikman Floor Covering for 52 years and a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf with his golf buddies, but especially loved traveling with his wife, whether it was staying in the mountains or just a day trip.

Ford’s wishes were to be cremated with no public service. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Tate “Ford” Ruddell.
