The Gordon County BOE has announced a projected 6.98 percent increase in property taxes will be needed to meet the system’s budget. Three hearings are scheduled: a pair on Aughst 26th and one on September 8th.

Two quick-acting jailers are being praised for saving an inmate’s life after a choking incident over the weekend. It happened Sunday evening, August 10th, inside the jail’s booking area. Jailers noticed an inmate in a holding cell was choking and unable to breathe. Deputy O.L. Towe and Jailer A.R. Kinsey rushed to help and used the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the piece of food. Their fast action restored the inmate’s breathing. Sheriff Mitch Ralston credited their training and quick response. All staff at the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office are certified annually in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver.
