GSP Investigates Crash; Gordon County Announces Service Event and Homestead Deadline
GORDON COUNTY, GA — Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left two people injured Friday.
Troopers say the accident happened on GA 136 on March 20th when a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck failed to navigate a left turn and traveled off the roadway.
According to the preliminary report, the vehicle was traveling too fast for the curve, left the road, and struck a ditch.
The 21-year-old driver from Rome was injured and transported by Lifeforce to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, while a passenger was taken by ambulance to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
County to Host “Service Spotlight” Event April 1
Gordon County officials are inviting the public to attend a Service Spotlight event as part of National County Government Month.
The event will be held on Wednesday, April 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at City Park (formerly BB&T Park).
Residents will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about county departments and services
- Meet local officials

Officials say the event is designed to highlight how county government works to serve the community.
Homestead Exemption Deadline Approaching
County officials are also reminding homeowners that the deadline to apply for a homestead exemption is April 1st.
Gordon County offers five local homestead exemptions, including options for residents 65, 70, and now 75 years of age.
Officials say homeowners who recently reached one of those age thresholds may qualify for additional savings and are encouraged to contact the Tax Assessor’s Office for a review.
Applications will be accepted through April 1, 2026, with another opportunity available during the property tax appeal period later this year.
For more information, residents can contact the Gordon County Tax Assessor’s Office at 706-629-6812 or visit their website.
