Feeding the Needy Thanksgiving Event Draws Over 1,000
The 2nd annual Feeding the Needy Calhoun Thanksgiving event brought together more than 1,000 residents on Thursday, Nov. 27, at Calhoun First United Methodist Church. The free holiday meal welcomed not only those facing financial hardship but anyone seeking companionship during the season. Founded by Dr. Walter Harris, the initiative aims to raise awareness of community poverty while offering care and connection for the elderly and those experiencing loneliness.

Local Leaders Encourage Residents to Shop Small This Holiday Season
As Black Friday weekend kicks off, local leaders and business owners are urging Calhoun residents to support small, local businesses instead of heading to crowded big-box stores. Shopping locally allows residents to find unique gifts, enjoy friendly service, and avoid long lines, while also keeping tax dollars in Gordon County and supporting neighborhood jobs. Many downtown shops are offering extended hours, special promotions, and festive displays, and community organizations emphasize that supporting local also benefits restaurants, salons, service providers, and local makers throughout the holiday season.
