CALHOUN POLICE OFFICERS HAILED AS HEROES AFTER BRIDGE RESCUE

Two Calhoun Police officers are being recognized for their swift actions in preventing a woman from jumping off a bridge on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.

Around 4:30 p.m., Officer Andrew Hooker was alerted by a concerned citizen about a woman sitting on the outside of the bridge railing on Oothcalooga Street near Pine Street. Upon arrival, Officer Hooker found the woman visibly distressed and crying while on her phone.

Believing she was in immediate danger, Hooker removed his vest and attempted to pull her to safety. During a struggle, the woman locked her feet between the rails and shifted her weight forward in an apparent attempt to jump.

Corporal Joey Ulibarri arrived shortly after and assisted Hooker. Together, the officers were able to safely pull her back onto the roadway side of the bridge.

Police Chief Tony Pyle praised both the concerned citizen who reported the situation and the officers’ professionalism and courage, noting their actions led to a safe resolution.
