Pickens County Resident Enters Congressional Race – With U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk not seeking re-election in 2026, the race for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District is opening up early. Pickens County resident Christopher Mora, a Republican and long-time Georgia resident, is among the first candidates in the race. Mora says he is running to address what he sees as a disconnect between officials and constituents, and he plans to campaign with limited reliance on large donations. His platform includes stricter immigration enforcement, expanded veterans’ benefits, support for the SAVE Act, and opposition to data center construction in the district. The primary election is set for May 19, with early voting beginning April 27.

Calhoun High School Boys Win Region Championship – The Calhoun High School boys basketball team has been crowned Region 7-AAA Champions, adding another title to the program’s successful tradition. The victory highlights the dedication of both players and coaching staff throughout the season.

Calhoun to Honor Former Councilman Ray Denmon – The City of Calhoun will celebrate “Ray Denmon Day” to recognize former City Councilman Ray Denmon’s community service. A reception will be held Feb. 23 from 6–7 p.m. at The Downtown Calhoun Depot, where Denmon will receive an official proclamation. The public is invited to attend.
