Gordon County Quality of Life Committee Meeting
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners will hold its regularly scheduled Quality of Life Committee meeting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025. The meeting will take place in the First Floor Conference Room of the Gordon County Administration Building at 201 N. Wall Street in Calhoun. The meeting is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend.
VAC Community Kitchen Holiday Hours
The Voluntary Action Center has announced holiday operating hours for its Community Kitchen, ensuring meal services will continue throughout the holiday season. While VAC administrative offices and the Thrift Store will be closed, the Community Kitchen will serve meals on designated days listed in the posted schedule. VAC officials encourage those who rely on the service to review the schedule in advance and thanked volunteers and donors for their continued support.
Georgia DOT Holiday Travel and Lane Closure Suspension
Georgia DOT is urging motorists to plan ahead for increased holiday travel as traffic volumes are expected to rise statewide. To improve traffic flow, lane closures on interstates and major routes will be suspended from Dec. 23 at 6 a.m. through Dec. 28 at 10 p.m., with a second suspension from Dec. 31 at 5 a.m. through Jan. 2, 2026, at 5 a.m. While most construction closures will be lifted, some long-term or emergency closures may remain, and drivers are reminded to stay alert and use caution near work zones.
Free Pet Adoptions at Calhoun Animal Control
Calhoun Animal Control is offering free adoptions through Dec. 31 as the shelter works to reduce overcrowding. The facility is currently at full capacity and is seeking the community’s help to find loving homes for animals in its care. Residents interested in adopting a pet are encouraged to visit the shelter at 202 Kirby Road.
