Public Works & Facilities Committee Meeting Scheduled
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners will hold its regularly scheduled Public Works & Facilities Committee meeting on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Gordon County Administration Building, 201 North Wall Street, Calhoun.
Officials are expected to provide updates on the Community Events Center currently under construction near the fairgrounds, and discuss ongoing department-level budgeting processes. The meeting is open to the public.
Buck Boulevard Investigation Results in Arrests
Deputy sheriffs and officers from the Department of Community Supervision concluded an operation on Buck Boulevard Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of illegal items.
The investigation began around noon when deputies discovered a suspicious device while searching the home of a State probationer. The Floyd County EOD Unit safely removed the device using a remotely controlled robot. It will now be examined by the ATF.
Arrests Made:

Jacob Austin McAfee, 34, of 879 Buck Boulevard, faces charges related to a hazardous incendiary device and firearms violations. McAfee was on probation from a previous felony conviction in Bartow County and reportedly on bond for another arrest in Cherokee County.

Dianna Le McAfee was arrested after officers found a stolen firearm and methamphetamine in the home.
Both defendants are currently in jail. Sheriff Mitch Ralston noted that the arrests were part of a broader investigation and thanked the EOD Unit for their assistance.
National Weather Service Offers Free Severe Weather Spotter Training
The NWS Peachtree City/Atlanta is hosting free virtual Storm Spotter Training classes for community members interested in learning how to identify and report severe weather safely.
Basic-level Training Sessions:

Thursday, February 26 – 12:00 p.m. EST

Wednesday, March 11 – 12:00 p.m. EDT

Wednesday, March 25 – 6:00 p.m. EDT
Classes are open to individuals, groups, and organizations. Registration is required, but there is no cost to participate. Participants will learn severe weather fundamentals, reporting procedures, and how trained spotters support the NWS during hazardous events.
An advanced-level session is planned for late March. Completion of a basic class is recommended prior to attending the advanced session. Community members are encouraged to share training opportunities with others.
