Denmon Honored for Service to Calhoun
Former Calhoun City Councilman Ray Denmon was recognized Monday evening for his years of dedicated service to the city. During a special reception prior to the City Council meeting, Denmon received a proclamation honoring his commitment and contributions to the community. He said the greatest honor of his career was the opportunity to serve the citizens of Calhoun.

Arbor Day 2026 Draws Hundreds, Marks 33 Years as Tree City
Arbor Day 2026 was a major success in Calhoun, with 97 total volunteers assisting over two days and approximately 430 visitors attending Saturday’s event. Twenty-one tree varieties were offered, with paw paw, persimmon, crabapple, and dogwood among the most popular selections. Most trees were claimed by the end of the event. A limited number of trees will be available March 7 at First Methodist Church. This year marks Calhoun’s 33rd year as a designated Tree City.

Gordon County Schools Mourns Loss of Longtime BOE Member Bobby Hall
Gordon County Schools is mourning the passing of Board of Education Post 4 Vice-Chairperson Bobby Hall, the longest-serving Board member in district history. Hall served nearly 30 years, first elected in 1987 and returning to the Board in 2013. A strong advocate for public education, Hall was known for his steady leadership and visible support of students and staff. District officials expressed deep gratitude for his decades of service and extended condolences to his family.
