2026 General Primary Election Qualifying
Gordon County qualifying for the May 19, 2026 General Primary Election will run from 9 a.m. Monday, March 2, through noon Friday, March 6. Republican candidates on the ballot include:
• County Commissioner, District 2 – Chad Steward (Incumbent)
• County Commissioner, District 4 – Kurt Sutherland (Incumbent) and Larry Justin Henderson
• County Board of Education, Post 1 – Charles “Charlie” Walraven (Incumbent)
• County Board of Education, Post 7 – Judy M. Craig and Sheila Wheat
Public Warned of Court-Related Scam
Gordon County Clerk of Superior Court Grant Walraven is warning residents about a scam involving fake traffic hearing notices. The fraudulent message may include a QR code directing people to make payments.
Officials stress that courts will never contact the public by phone or email about court matters and will not send QR codes for payment. Residents are urged not to scan the code or send money if they receive such a notice.
Calhoun Boys Basketball Advances to Elite 8
The Calhoun Yellow Jackets defeated Dawson County 61-52 in the second round of the GHSA Class AAA State Tournament. The win sends Calhoun to the Elite 8, where they will host their next game Wednesday, March 4. The opponent and game time are still to be announced.
