The Gordon County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Committee has been named the regional winner of the Annual Northwest Georgia Share Your Christmas Food Drive Competition after collecting more than 3,000 pounds of food, equal to 2,527 meals, for local families facing food insecurity. The effort was led by co-chairs Steven Duncan of Starr-Mathews Agency and Steven Proper of Shaw Industries Group, with significant support from committee member Shyloh Chavez of Anderson Heating, Air and Insulation. Collection boxes were placed at numerous businesses and government offices across Gordon County, and the food drive ran from October 29 through December 12, concluding with the delivery of donations to the Pierce Distribution Center in Dalton.
Calhoun Animal Control is offering free adoptions through December 31 as the shelter works to reduce overcrowding and find permanent homes for animals currently in its care. Officials say the facility is at full capacity and is asking for community support, noting that every adoption helps create space for incoming animals while giving pets a chance at a safe and loving home. Residents interested in adopting are encouraged to visit Calhoun Animal Control, located at 202 Kirby Road, to meet the animals available.
The Hardee’s restaurant on Highway 41 North in Resaca has closed as of this week amid ongoing financial issues involving ARC Burger, the company that purchased the chain out of bankruptcy several years ago. In late 2025, Hardee’s terminated its agreement with ARC Burger due to financial difficulties, resulting in the closure of multiple locations across states including Georgia, Illinois, and Kansas. Hardee’s has since filed a lawsuit against ARC Burger seeking $6.5 million in unpaid royalties, rent, and marketing fees.
