Improving access to high-quality health care in rural communities was the focus of a Jan. 16 White House roundtable, where President Donald Trump highlighted a new federal policy aimed at strengthening rural health systems. Dr. Andrew McCue of AdventHealth Gordon participated in the discussion, sharing insight into the needs of rural hospitals in Northwest Georgia. The Rural Health Transformation Program will invest $50 billion over five years to help states modernize care, expand access and keep services closer to home for rural patients.
Red Cross Urges Immediate Blood Donations Amid Severe Shortage
The American Red Cross is calling for urgent blood donations as the national supply has dropped by about 35% in the past month. Increased hospital demand, widespread flu illness and winter weather disruptions have contributed to the shortage, with type O, A negative and B negative blood especially needed. Officials warn that without more donors, some patients could face delays in lifesaving care.
