Invasive Bradford Pear Removal Recommendations
Local officials are encouraging residents to consider removing invasive Bradford pear trees from their properties. These trees are known for weak structural integrity, making them prone to splitting and damage during storms.
Additionally, Bradford pear wood has little practical use. Residents seeking more durable and environmentally friendly alternatives are encouraged to contact Keep Calhoun-Gordon Beautiful for recommendations on native species such as oaks and dogwoods.
Burn Bans in Effect: Local and State
Gordon County commissioners have enacted a local burn ban effective immediately due to current environmental conditions.
Residents should also prepare for the statewide burn ban, which begins May 1. These measures are intended to protect air quality and reduce the risk of wildfires during the warmer months.
All outdoor burning is discouraged until restrictions are lifted.
