Extreme Heat Warning
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Gordon County today, July 2, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT, with heat index values reaching up to 111 degrees.
Stay cool and hydrated: Spend time in air-conditioned areas and drink plenty of fluids.
Prioritize safety: Limit strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or evening, wear loose-fitting clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives.
Know the signs: Heat stroke is a medical emergency; if symptoms appear, move to a cool location and call 911 immediately.
## Holiday Weekend Community Events The community has several events scheduled to celebrate the holiday weekend.
Star-Spangled Celebration: On Saturday, July 4, the new Northwest Georgia Agriculture & Event Center (1070 Liberty Road) hosts its public debut from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, featuring live music, food trucks, and a 9:30 PM fireworks display.
Patriotic Concert: Enjoy a free performance by the Harris Arts Center Community Band on Sunday, July 5, at the Downtown City Park from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Local Festivities: Residents can also attend “Light Up the Valley” at Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
Travel, Health, and Sports
Holiday Travel: AAA expects 2.4 million Georgians to travel for the holiday, with 2.1 million driving. State gas prices have decreased by 7 cents to an average of $3.58 per gallon.
