Weather Alert: Flood Watch Remains in Effect
A National Weather Service Flood Watch remains in effect for Gordon County and much of northwest Georgia through tonight. Heavy rainfall is expected across the region, creating the potential for localized flash flooding. Motorists are urged to use caution and never drive through flooded roadways.
Local Arrest Reports
The following individuals were booked into the Gordon County Jail:
- Franklin Alberto Fernandez, 25, of Calhoun — Calhoun Police Department: Sexual Assault.
- Jose Joel Maldonado, 48, of Calhoun — Calhoun Police Department: Simple Battery (Family Violence).
- Kristin Leya McMichen, 35, of Calhoun — Calhoun Police Department: Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction of Officers, Public Drunkenness, and Simple Assault.
- Andrew Jake Mitchell, 45, of Chatsworth — Calhoun Police Department: Simple Assault.
- Kyle Michelle Smith, 58, of Adairsville — Georgia State Patrol: Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic, Driving Under the Influence, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, Duty Upon Striking a Fixture, and Operating a Vehicle Without a Current License Plate.
- Bobbie Jewell Vincent, 54, of Calhoun — Gordon County Sheriff’s Office: Simple Battery (Family Violence).
- Arthur Johnathan Fotinakes, 44, of Calhoun — Calhoun Police Department: Driving Under the Influence, Hit and Run, and Improper Lane Change.
Calhoun City Council Meeting
The Calhoun City Council will hold a work session on Monday, July 27, at 12:00 p.m. at the City Annex, located at 700 West Line Street. The council’s regular meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Calhoun Depot, 109 South King Street. The official meeting agenda will be posted on the City’s website once it is released.
Fuel and Market Update
Fuel prices continue to rise as global supply concerns and geopolitical tensions push crude oil higher. Brent crude recently climbed above $100 per barrel before settling near $97.90, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is trading around $89.69 per barrel.
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has surpassed $4.09, while Georgia’s statewide average has increased to $3.84 per gallon, according to AAA.
Mortgage Rates and Housing Market Update
Mortgage rates continue trending higher as rising 10-year Treasury yields put additional pressure on borrowing costs. The daily average for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage has climbed to 6.85%, while Freddie Mac’s weekly average reached 6.58%—its highest level in nearly a year.
Combined with record-high home prices, the increase in borrowing costs continues to slow home sales, with economists warning mortgage rates could approach 7% if global instability persists.

Atlanta Braves Report
The Atlanta Braves wrapped up their four-game series against the San Diego Padres with a 6-5 victory on Thursday night, winning the series three games to one.
Reliever Raisel Iglesias recorded his 281st career strikeout as a Brave, moving past John Smoltz into 11th place on the franchise’s all-time relief strikeout list.
The Braves now head to Baltimore for a three-game weekend series against the Orioles.
