Gordon County Schools have announced several leadership changes for the upcoming school year. At Gordon Central High School, Carmen Massengill has been named the new principal, succeeding the retiring Dr. Amy Parker. Red Bud Elementary and Red Bud Middle School will also see new assistant principals in place this fall.

A Fire Danger Statement remains in effect across Gordon County for the eighth consecutive day. The Georgia Forestry Commission warns that dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds are creating a high risk for wildfire spread, and outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Drivers are also feeling the impact at the pump. Gas prices in Calhoun are currently averaging between three fifty-eight and three sixty-five per gallon, just below the statewide average.

In Calhoun, Police Chief Tony Pyle has been placed on paid administrative leave as the city conducts an independent investigation. Lt. Col. Ken Carson is serving as interim leader of the department.

And Gordon County Commissioners have approved a temporary moratorium on new data center developments while updating local land-use regulations.
