Woman Dies After November Residential Fire

A Gordon County woman has died from injuries sustained in a November 26 house fire on Linda Lane. Fire crews found the victim with severe burns and smoke inhalation before she was transferred to a metro burn center, where she later passed away. Investigators ruled the fire accidental, citing mishandling of an open-flame lighter. Officials urge residents to review fire-safety practices and keep the family in their thoughts.


Gordon County Schools Offering Winter Holiday Meal Boxes

Gordon County Schools will distribute Winter Holiday Meal Boxes on Friday, December 19 from 1–7 p.m. Each box includes 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches per child and is available for ages 0–18 (0–21 for students with special needs). No registration is required. Pickup locations include Belwood Elementary, Fairmount Elementary, Gordon Central High, Red Bud Elementary, Sonoraville High, Tolbert Elementary, and W.L. Swain Elementary.


Calhoun Christmas Parade of Lights Set for Thursday

Downtown Calhoun will glow for the 2025 Christmas Parade of Lights on Thursday, December 11 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme, Cowboy Christmas, will feature illuminated floats, festive characters, music, and a visit from Santa, who will ride on last year’s winning float. Families are invited to line the streets and enjoy the holiday celebration.
