Calhoun Police Department Awarded $33K Safety Grant
The City of Calhoun Police Department has received a $33,097.44 traffic enforcement grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The funding supports the department’s role as coordinating agency for the TEN Mountain Area Traffic Enforcement Network, which promotes year-round seatbelt, speed, and DUI enforcement across ten northwest Georgia counties. Chief Tony Pyle said the grant will help continue efforts to keep Calhoun and Gordon County roads safe.
Gordon County Man Arrested on Child Molestation Charges
Christopher Joel Jackson, 55, of Kentucky Drive near Calhoun, was arrested on September 18, 2025, following an investigation into an alleged child molestation. Deputies first responded to a domestic disturbance on September 16, where a shot had been fired but no injuries occurred. Detectives later executed search warrants, collected evidence, and charged Jackson with Aggravated Child Molestation and related offenses. He remains in custody pending bond.
