Recycling for a Cause:
Gordon County Fire & Rescue’s Station 10 in Ranger is now collecting aluminum cans as part of the “Give Burns The Boot” campaign. The effort supports the Georgia Firefighter Burn Foundation, which helps burn survivors and funds fire prevention programs. Residents can drop off cans anytime at the trailer outside Station 10 on U.S. Highway 411 in Ranger.
High-Speed Chase Arrest:
A Calhoun woman is behind bars after leading police and deputies on a high-speed chase through Gordon County Monday morning. Officers say 30-year-old Hannah Storm Webb fled after being approached about a hit-and-run involving her vehicle. The pursuit ended near the Floyd County line after a deputy performed a PIT maneuver. Webb faces multiple charges, including fleeing police, obstruction, speeding, and hit and run.
VAC Braces for Increased Food Needs:
With SNAP benefits expected to pause in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the Voluntary Action Center in Calhoun is preparing for a surge in families needing food assistance. Director Miranda Bentley says the center is already seeing new families sign up for help and is asking for donations of canned goods, cereal, pasta, and other non-perishables. Donations can be dropped off at 343 South Wall Street or made online at voluntaryactioncenter.org.
