Local Elections: Voter turnout was modest across Gordon County in Tuesday’s local elections. In Calhoun, 16% of registered voters cast ballots, with Bruce Potts unseating incumbent Ray Denmon for City Council Post 4, 964–739. Fairmount saw 22.4% turnout, with incumbent Joanna Brannon retaining Post 3, 88–36. Uncontested races drew smaller totals, and referendums on sales taxes and homestead exemptions passed with strong support.
Education Spotlight: Dr. Heidi Popham, president of Georgia Northwestern Technical College, has been named to Georgia Trend magazine’s 2025 list of the 500 Most Influential Georgians. This marks the fourth year Dr. Popham has earned the recognition for her leadership and impact on the college and the broader community.
Community Support Needed: The Volunteer Action Center reports a rise in families needing assistance at its food pantry this November. Donations of elbow noodles, spaghetti sauce, and canned meats are especially needed. Contributions can be dropped off at 343 South Wall Street in Calhoun during regular business hours.
