Back-to-School Season Begins in Gordon County and Calhoun City

As summer winds down, families across Gordon County and the City of Calhoun are gearing up for the start of a new school year. Both Gordon County Schools and Calhoun City Schools have announced their official start dates and scheduled orientation events to help students and families transition back to the classroom.

Start Dates and School Events

Calhoun City Schools will kick off the 2025–2026 academic year on Tuesday, August 5, giving students a head start before neighboring districts.

Gordon County Schools will begin classes on Friday, August 8, with a full lineup of back-to-school events throughout the week leading up to the first day. These events are designed to help families meet teachers, find classrooms, and get acquainted with the year ahead:

  • Pre-K Orientation: Tuesday, August 5

  • Elementary School Open House: Tuesday, August 5

  • Middle School Open House: Wednesday, August 6

  • High School Open House: Thursday, August 7

Families are encouraged to check with their individual schools for specific times and details.

County Commission Meeting Set for Tuesday

Gordon County residents are also reminded that the Gordon County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday, August 5 at 5 p.m. The agenda is available online at gordoncountyga.gov, and the public is welcome to attend or follow along for updates on local governance and community developments.
