Gordon County deputies responded to a residence on Rock Creek Road the afternoon of October 17 after receiving a report of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, whose injury was confirmed to be non-life-threatening, was transported for medical treatment and remains hospitalized. Investigators say the woman has not cooperated with detectives regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting. During the investigation, detectives discovered a substantial quantity of suspected methamphetamine and more than 60 firearms believed to be illegally possessed. As a result, 54-year-old Marty Worley of 269 Rock Creek Road was arrested on drug trafficking and multiple weapons charges. He is being held at the Gordon County Jail pending bond. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities expect additional arrests or charges.

Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston has announced that Jail Administrator Major Pat Bedford has received the “Dedication to Excellence Award” from the National Institute of Jail Operations (NIJO). The award, presented during NIJO’s annual training conference in Mobile, Alabama, recognizes individuals who exceed expectations in ensuring the safety and security of staff, inmates, and the public. Major Bedford, a law enforcement veteran with more than 30 years of service, has overseen daily operations of the Gordon County Jail since 2009. Sheriff Ralston praised Bedford’s leadership and integrity, stating that his commitment to excellence has made a lasting impact on the agency and the community.

Calhoun Chief of Police Tony Pyle has confirmed that a male pedestrian in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a vehicle overnight. The collision occurred on Highway 53 Spur (Oothcalooga Street) near the Dollar General. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, and additional details are expected to be released later today.
