    Expect power outages and tree damage due to the ice. Travel could be impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

    Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

A new Forced U-Turn is coming to Plainville. The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved a near-four million dollar project to improve the safety of motorists on Highway 53 in Scottsville. A raised median will replace the turning lane at Brownlee Mountain Road and Plainville Road’s intersections with the state highway. The improvement will start soon. We will update on any traffic related news as the construction gets underway.
The planning commission on Monday night drew a larger than normal crowd. On the agenda were two requests to rezone a combined 90 acres from agricultural to light industrial. The Gordon County Historical Preservation committee voted unanimously to deny the request. The owners of the lot are trying to get proper clearance to build a large logistics center. The Planning Commission, with one member absent, split the vote with two for approval of the applications and two opposed. The tie will be reported to The Gordon County Board of Commissioners for a decision. The matter will be on the board’s Tuesday, March 18, 2025 agenda.
The special election for City of Fairmount voters to select a new Mayor and a new City Council Post 1 Member is Tuesday, March 18th.
