One person is dead following an early morning crash on Interstate 75 northbound near Dalton, the Whitfield County Fire Department confirmed Thursday.

The crash brought traffic to a standstill, forcing the closure of all northbound lanes for several hours. A medical transport helicopter was brought in to airlift the injured to nearby hospitals, while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

One lane was later reopened to ease congestion, but the Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the incident. Additional lanes are expected to reopen once that investigation is complete.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the person killed or provided further details on the number of individuals injured.
