GORDON COUNTY, GA – A Cartersville man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on I-75 North near Exit 312, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on July 14 when a 2004 Ford DRW Super Duty, traveling northbound, exited onto the ramp at Exit 312. Investigators say the driver, 29-year-old Randy Rodas Samayoa, fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to veer off the left side of the ramp. The vehicle went down an embankment and overturned multiple times before coming to a stop, facing south.
Samayoa sustained serious injuries and was flown by Air Life 3 to Kennestone Hospital. His condition remains unknown at this time.
A passenger in the vehicle, who was uninjured, told authorities that Samayoa had been falling asleep repeatedly and that he attempted to alert him as the truck left the roadway—but it was too late.
The crash remains under investigation.
