Gordon County Board of Commissioners Meeting tomorrow night includes an update from the Zoning and Planning Commission. Sources say that two resignations of existing members will be part of the discussion. Also on thr agenda, a SPLOST Project approval for new lighting at Sonoraville Recreation Department. The cost of the proposal recommended to the board by professional staff is 798,000. That cost is for the replacement of existing Halogen lights with new LED bulbs. Discussions are underway about the costs and time-frame for redoing the lights at the entire complex. In other GCBC news, the Public Works and Facilities Meeting included – Pocket Road expected to reopen in October. The multi-year delays in the Mount Olive Church Road Dam are over. That’s according to County Administrator Jim Ledbetter. He met with the contractors last week; Ledbetter expects the project to be completed by the end of the year. The EXP traffic study that is a step toward improving the Lovers Lane/Dews Pond intersection is delayed as the engineers need a previously completed survey. According to Assistant County Administrator Keith King, that survey is expected in the next two weeks. The county and city are working together on this intersection and the city-controlled intersection of Dews Pond and Curtis Parkway. No repairs or expansion to the state bridge over I 75 have been announced.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston joined us on air today to talk about CHAMPS – that is his office’s program of healthy choices and safety initiatives taught to all Gordon County Fufth Graders and Calhoun City Sixth Graders. Sheriff Ralston also told us that good driving and patience have made back to school traffic flows smooth in the County.
