GORDON COUNTY — William Alexander Cannady has been indicted by the Gordon County Grand Jury in connection with a crash last October that claimed two lives.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 11:46 p.m. on October 18, 2024, when a pickup truck navigating a curve on Highway 53 veered out of its lane. The vehicle struck a large rock, causing it to overturn and reenter the roadway.
Investigators reported that none of the three occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The accident resulted in the deaths of 26-year-old Kayla Crook and 17-year-old Brody Hightower. Cannady, who sustained serious injuries, was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital.
Cannady now faces two counts of Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, as well as charges of Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Wear a Safety Belt.
