A home in the New Town area of Calhoun was completely destroyed by fire late last week. Gordon County Fire & Rescue crews responded just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, to 230 Town Creek Drive NE, finding the structure fully engulfed upon arrival. Firefighters immediately attacked the blaze, with two personnel entering the home to confirm it was unoccupied. The fire was eventually extinguished, but the property was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Students at Sonoraville High School had a unique opportunity to witness emergency medical services firsthand this week, thanks to a visit from Erlanger’s Life Force Air Medical team and AdventHealth. The Life Force helicopter landed at the school’s facility known as The Furnace, allowing healthcare pathway students to meet the crew and observe their operations up close. The experience provided valuable insight into emergency response careers and inspired many students considering futures in healthcare. School officials expressed appreciation for the partnership, highlighting its role in offering meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.

Sonoraville High School also celebrated National Signing Day this week, honoring student-athletes who have committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. During a ceremony attended by coaches, family, and peers, the school recognized baseball players Will Patterson (Emmanuel University), Eli Balliew (Young Harris College), Griffin Long (Kennesaw State University), and Hudson Kinman (Concord University), as well as softball players Ansley Hall (Middle Tennessee State University), Annslee DeFoor and Hannah Bradley (Brewton-Parker Christian University), Lila Mullinax (University of North Georgia), and Cadence Mulkey (Young Harris College). Sonoraville High School commended the athletes for their dedication, leadership, and achievements both on and off the field.
