Seniors Celebrate Thanksgiving at Local Center
Around 60 seniors from across Gordon County gathered Thursday at the Gordon County Senior Citizen Center for a festive Thanksgiving luncheon. Gordon County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bud Owens joined staff in serving the traditional holiday meal. The Senior Citizen Center offers a wide range of programs including exercise classes, legal aid, field trips, bingo, health screenings, and Meals on Wheels, supporting wellness and community engagement for the county’s older adults.

Community Food Drive Scheduled for Today
Residents are invited to help local families in need by donating non-perishable food items at a community food drive on Friday, November 21, from 1–6 p.m. at Calhoun Crossing Plaza (former Kmart). Donations will benefit St. Clement’s Catholic Church’s ministry, with requested items including canned meats, chili, pasta, boxed meals, and vegetables.

Downtown Calhoun Kicks Off Holiday Open House Sunday
The holiday season officially begins in Downtown Calhoun this Sunday, November 23, with the 20+ year tradition of the Holiday Open House from 1–6 p.m. Shoppers can explore local boutiques, enjoy complimentary gift wrapping, and take part in festive activities including a live DJ, free holiday gift tags, The Polar Express screenings at The GEM Theatre, and the 20th Annual Festival of Trees at the Harris Arts Center.

The GEM Theatre Highlights Merry & Bright Weekend
As part of Downtown Calhoun’s Merry & Bright Weekend on Saturday, November 22, The GEM Theatre will host visitors from 6–8 p.m. for classic holiday short films, including “Pluto’s Christmas Tree” (1952) and “On Ice” (1935). Free tours are available from 4–6 p.m., with showings of “The Year Without a Santa Claus” at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Guests can also participate in a donation drive for new socks and toboggan hats, receiving free popcorn as a thank-you. The event complements downtown festivities including sleigh rides, photos with Santa, snow at City Park, and more.
