LIHEAP HEATING ASSISTANCE OPENS TODAY

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program — LIHEAP — officially opens today for the winter heating season. The federally funded program helps eligible Georgians pay their heating bills through direct payments to energy providers.

Beginning today, Dec. 1, applications are open for seniors age 65 and older and medically homebound households. All other eligible residents can begin scheduling appointments January 2nd. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis until it runs out.

Residents must contact their local Community Action Agency based on the county they live in:

🔹 Pickens, Walker, and Whitfield counties — contact Ninth District Opportunity at 770-532-3191 or visit NDO.org.
🔹 Bartow, Cobb, Douglas, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties — contact Tallatoona Community Action Partnership at 770-382-5388 or TallatoonaCAP.org.

To qualify, household income must be at or below 60% of the state median income — that’s $34,549 for a one-person household, and $77,071 for a five-person household.

Applicants must provide a recent heating bill, Social Security numbers and proof of citizenship for everyone in the home, and proof of income for the last 30 days.
