Residents across Gordon County are being urged to prepare for a stretch of extreme cold expected over the next 24 hours. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are forecast to drop into the teens overnight and remain dangerously low through Monday morning. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to follow the “4 Ps” during cold weather: ensure warm shelter for people and pets, especially vulnerable individuals and animals; cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing; bring sensitive plants indoors; and wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing when outdoors. Officials encourage residents to take precautions now to reduce cold-related hazards and stay safe during the extreme conditions.

In traffic news, motorists are advised of a temporary road closure impacting Brownlee Mountain Road. Beginning at 9 a.m. today, Monday, December 15, contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation will close Brownlee Mountain Road at its intersection with Highway 53. The closure is scheduled to remain in place until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 19. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the area while following all posted signage and directions from work crews.
