City of Calhoun Schedules Work Session and Council Meeting
The City of Calhoun will hold two public meetings on Monday, January 12. A work session is set for noon in the conference room at 700 West Line Street, where council members will review ongoing projects and departmental updates. The City Council’s regular meeting will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Depot Community Room, 109 South King Street. Both meetings are open to the public and provide opportunities for public engagement.

Gordon County Public Facilities Authority Meeting Planned
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners will host a Public Facilities Authority meeting on Monday, January 12, at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in the conference room of the Gordon County Administration Building at 201 N. Wall Street in Calhoun. The meeting is open to the public and will focus on county facility-related matters.

Local Wrestling Teams Shine in Postseason Competition
Calhoun High School and Gordon Central High School wrestling teams delivered strong postseason performances. Calhoun Wrestling finished as the Region 7 AAA runner-up, earning a berth in the upcoming State Duals competition. Gordon Central Wrestling posted its best Area Duals finish in more than a decade, placing third out of 12 teams at the Area 1A-7 Duals and improving its season dual record to 25-2.

Gordon Central Names Billy Blizzard as Head Football Coach
Gordon Central High School has announced the appointment of Billy Blizzard as the Warriors’ new Head Football Coach. Blizzard brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and has been part of the Gordon Central staff since 2022. As Defensive Coordinator, he helped lead the Warriors to Georgia State Class A playoff appearances in 2024 and 2025, earning statewide honors as Class A-D1 Defensive Coordinator of the Year in 2024 and Assistant Coach of the Year in 2025.
School officials say Blizzard will build on the program’s recent momentum with a focus on discipline, academic achievement, character development, and community pride.
