Red Cross Urges Immediate Blood Donations Amid Severe Shortage

The American Red Cross is calling for urgent blood donations as the national supply has dropped by about 35% in the past month. Increased hospital demand, widespread flu illness and winter weather disruptions have contributed to the shortage, with type O, A negative and B negative blood especially needed. Officials warn that without more donors, some patients could face delays in lifesaving care.

Upcoming Local Blood Drives

Several blood donation opportunities are scheduled across Northwest Georgia in the coming weeks, including locations in Adairsville, Cartersville, Mount Berry and Cedartown. Appointments can be made through the Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
