Gordon County Approves Data Center Moratorium
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday, Feb. 3, to enact a moratorium on new data center construction. The temporary pause will remain in effect while the county updates its Unified Land Development Code to establish regulations for the construction and operation of data centers. Commissioner Chad Steward introduced the proposal during the board’s work session before bringing it forward for approval during the regular meeting.

Calhoun Police Lieutenant Colonel Appointed to State Council
Calhoun Police Department Lt. Col. Kenneth Carson has been appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to serve on the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council. The official ceremony took place Tuesday at the State Capitol. Carson was joined by Sgt. Kevin Sutton for the occasion.

Sonoraville’s Langston Butler Signs with Shorter University
Sonoraville senior wide receiver Langston Butler officially signed a scholarship Wednesday, Feb. 4, to continue his football career at Shorter University. After overcoming a season-ending injury his junior year, Butler returned to post a record-breaking senior season with 59 receptions, 918 yards, and 11 touchdowns—setting new school records for receiving yards and touchdowns. Head coach Denver Pate praised Butler’s resilience, calling him an “overcomer.”

Calhoun High School Athletes Celebrate National Signing Day
Calhoun High School marked National Signing Day by celebrating student-athletes committing to play football at the collegiate level. Trey Perkins signed with Anderson University, while Clay Thornton committed to Maryville College. Family, friends, and community members gathered to recognize the Yellow Jackets as they take the next step in their academic and athletic journeys.
