DRIVER IN CUSTODY AFTER FLEEING TRAFFIC STOP IN WHITFIELD COUNTY

Whitfield County deputies have a driver in custody following a pursuit that began on Interstate 75 and ended in neighboring Murray County.

According to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 332 on I-75 after discovering the vehicle was displaying stolen license plates. The driver initially appeared to comply but then fled the scene in the vehicle.

The pursuit continued into Murray County, where the driver ultimately crashed at the intersection of Highway 225 and Smyrna Church Road. After the crash, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies from both Whitfield and Murray counties.

Authorities say additional details will be released as they become available.
