Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle has resigned from his leadership role within the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police while he remains on paid administrative leave amid an ongoing internal investigation into the Calhoun Police Department.
Pyle stepped down this week from his position as the appointed District 8 representative for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP), according to a statement released by the organization on Friday, April 17.
The GACP is the state’s largest professional association for law enforcement administrators, focusing on strengthening cooperation among agencies, evaluating policing standards, and providing training and professional development opportunities for law enforcement leaders across Georgia. The organization is governed by a board that includes seven officers and 22 district representatives, each serving as a liaison for their respective regions.
District representatives play a key role in maintaining communication between local agencies and the GACP, organizing meetings and training sessions, and ensuring regional concerns are shared with leadership at the state level.
Gordon County, including the City of Calhoun, falls within District 8, which also includes Bartow, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties.
According to the GACP, Pyle was not required to notify the organization about the allegations or the subsequent media inquiry surrounding the investigation.
“Chief Pyle did not notify GACP of the allegations and subsequent inquiry by news media, nor was he required to,” said A.A. “Butch” Ayers, executive director of the GACP. “On Wednesday, Chief Pyle voluntarily stepped down from his position as the appointed representative for GACP District 8. A replacement will be selected soon.”
Pyle’s resignation from the GACP role does not affect his current employment status with the City of Calhoun, where he remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
No timeline has been announced for the completion of that investigation.
