Gordon County Unemployment Rate at 3.1 Percent as Northwest Georgia Employment Hits Record High

CALHOUN, GA — Gordon County posted one of the lowest unemployment rates in Northwest Georgia in the latest labor force numbers released by state officials.

According to the newest data, Gordon County reported an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent.

Other nearby counties also continued to show relatively low unemployment levels, including Dade County at 3.2 percent, Bartow County at 3.2 percent, Floyd County at 3.3 percent, and Walker County at 3.4 percent.

Whitfield County reported a 4.0 percent unemployment rate, while Murray County came in at 3.9 percent. Chattooga County recorded the highest unemployment rate shown in the region at 4.7 percent.

Across Northwest Georgia overall, the unemployment rate declined six-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 2.7 percent. The rate was 2.8 percent one year ago.

The region’s labor force decreased by 1,151 over the month but increased by 5,572 over the year to 458,771 workers.

Meanwhile, the number of employed residents rose by 1,628 over the month and increased by 5,771 over the year, reaching 446,222 — an all-time high for Northwest Georgia employment.

State labor officials also reported initial unemployment claims were down by 521 over the month, reflecting continued strength in the regional workforce.

Economic development leaders continue to point to manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, construction, and industrial growth across Northwest Georgia and the greater Chattanooga region as major drivers of employment demand.

Employers throughout the area continue actively hiring workers in manufacturing, skilled trades, transportation, warehousing, and healthcare positions.
