A Calhoun man was arrested Friday night following a lengthy pursuit through Gordon County and the City of Calhoun that ended after the suspect’s vehicle ran out of gas.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident began around 9:18 p.m. on June 5 when a trooper from Post 43 Calhoun was patrolling southbound on Marine Drive. Troopers said a 2019 Kia Forte, driven by a 25-year-old Calhoun resident, passed the patrol vehicle in a designated no-passing zone.
The trooper activated emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and fled. Authorities said the pursuit continued for approximately 14 miles along multiple county roads and city streets.
The chase came to an end inside the City of Calhoun when the Kia reportedly ran out of fuel. Troopers then took the suspect into custody without further incident.
During the arrest, authorities discovered the suspect was carrying a single-shot pistol in his pocket. Troopers also located a pistol and a shotgun inside the vehicle.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and driving under the influence. Additional traffic-related charges were also filed.
The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
