On Air: Education and Local Issues

This morning on A Brand New Day, we welcomed Judy Craig, candidate for Gordon County Board of Education At-Large Post 7, to discuss her platform and priorities ahead of Tuesday’s runoff election.

Local Economic Trends

Inflation continues to impact local families and businesses. With Georgia’s temporary gas tax suspension having expired, many households are expected to see higher fuel costs in the coming weeks. Rising natural gas prices are also increasing energy expenses for manufacturers and industrial operations, contributing to broader price increases on consumer goods.

Local agricultural producers, including those in the poultry industry, are facing higher feed and energy costs, adding further pressure to grocery prices.

Policy and Development Updates

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to adopt its Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget during a meeting on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Judicial Building Assembly Room.

Meanwhile, the City of Calhoun will hold a public hearing on June 22 regarding its 2026 General Government Fee Resolution and utility rate adjustments.

The City of Calhoun recently extended its moratorium on new data center developments through mid-January 2027. The city’s moratorium on new massage parlor applications remains in effect until July 23, 2026. Gordon County has also extended its data center moratorium through August 4, 2026.
