Several Gordon County students have been recognized for their academic achievements after receiving scholarships from The Foundation at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC).

The Foundation recently awarded 48 scholarships totaling more than $37,000 to 47 graduating high school seniors throughout northwest Georgia. The scholarships are designed to help students continue their education and workforce training through GNTC programs.

Among the Gordon County recipients of the Foundation’s High School Graduate Scholarship are Houston Johnson of Calhoun High School, Monica Pena of Calhoun College and Career Academy, Lily Perez of Gordon Central High School, Ambree Quarles of Sonoraville High School, and Shawn Rivera of Gordon County College and Career Academy.

The High School Graduate Scholarship is awarded annually to one senior from each public high school and college and career academy within GNTC’s nine-county service area.

Houston Johnson was selected to represent Calhoun High School, while Monica Pena earned the scholarship for Calhoun College and Career Academy. Lily Perez was recognized as the recipient from Gordon Central High School, Ambree Quarles represented Sonoraville High School, and Shawn Rivera received the honor from Gordon County College and Career Academy.

The scholarship program recognizes students who have demonstrated academic success and a commitment to pursuing higher education and career opportunities. By helping offset educational costs, the scholarships allow students to continue developing skills that will benefit local employers and communities across northwest Georgia.

Gordon County is also represented on the GNTC Foundation Board of Trustees by Becky Redd, who joins trustees from across the college’s nine-county service area in supporting student success and workforce development initiatives.

GNTC officials say the annual scholarship program reflects the Foundation’s commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders, skilled workers and professionals throughout the region.

As these Gordon County graduates prepare for the next chapter of their educational journeys, the scholarships provide valuable support and recognition for their hard work, dedication and future potential.
