The Calhoun Police Department has once again claimed first place in the Voluntary Action Center’s annual “1st to Respond, 1st to Serve” food drive competition, collecting more than 20,000 donated items to help families in need throughout the community.

The annual summer food drive brings together local first responders in a friendly competition to see which agency can collect the most food donations to help stock the shelves of the Voluntary Action Center.

This year, the Calhoun Police Department collected an impressive 20,123 items, earning the department another first-place finish while helping provide much-needed food assistance to local residents.

Department officials expressed their appreciation to community members who contributed to the effort, emphasizing that the victory would not have been possible without the generosity and support of local residents.

Special recognition was also given to Captain Nicholson and Support Service Technician Cornwell for their work coordinating donations and reaching out to the community to collect canned goods and other food items.

The department credited their dedication and hard work as key factors in the success of this year’s campaign.

While the friendly competition gives local first responders an opportunity to earn bragging rights, the primary goal is to support the Voluntary Action Center and ensure food is available for individuals and families facing difficult times.

With more than 20,000 items collected, the Calhoun Police Department’s latest first-place finish highlights the community’s continued commitment to helping neighbors in need.
