Residents concerned about PFAS contamination and the impact of proposed data centers in Gordon County and Northwest Georgia will have an opportunity to learn more during a community Zoom meeting scheduled for tonight.

The virtual meeting, hosted by Calhoun: Water Matters, will begin Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, with organizers saying the program will include a brief welcome and an update on where issues surrounding PFAS and data centers currently stand in the region before featured speakers begin their presentations.

According to organizers, the meeting will feature presentations from several guest speakers, including Dr. Dana Barr, who will discuss the health implications of PFAS exposure and address common questions about risks and safety. Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman will speak about the history of community involvement and advocacy surrounding the issue, while Mary Beth Baker will discuss community organizing and political action. Andreas Jensen is also scheduled to present information on data centers and their regional impacts.

Additional guest speakers and panelists may also participate during the meeting.

Organizers say the session will conclude with an open community question-and-answer period, followed by closing remarks and information on next steps.

Community members interested in participating can access the Zoom meeting using the link provided in the event flyer distributed by Calhoun: Water Matters. Organizers note that designated speakers are not the only voices that will be heard, encouraging attendees to share their thoughts during the Q&A portion of the meeting.
