The City of Calhoun is addressing confusion surrounding a proposed zoning ordinance after an outdated document began circulating on social media.
According to city officials, a PDF of a proposed zoning ordinance from May 2026 has recently been shared online. However, the city says the document does not reflect the final ordinance adopted by the Calhoun City Council.
The earlier proposal included provisions for a Technology District, but that section was ultimately removed before the ordinance was adopted. City officials said the decision was made to give the City Council additional time to study potential regulations concerning data centers.
As part of that effort, the city has entered into a contract with the Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly known as Georgia Tech, through its Digital First Community Program.
The partnership will assist Calhoun officials in evaluating potential regulations and developing appropriate ordinances related to data center development within the city.
City officials also announced that public forum sessions will be scheduled as part of the process. Those meetings will give residents, business owners, and other interested parties an opportunity to provide feedback and express concerns about potential regulations.
Dates, times, and locations for the public forums have not yet been announced, but the city says additional information will be released soon.
The City of Calhoun thanked residents for their interest in the issue and said it will continue providing updates as the review and ordinance development process moves forward.
